November 2008!!

Mark Kielburger Visit

On Thursday, November 6 we were honoured to have Mark Kielburger, chief executive director of Free The Children, pay a visit to our school.

After a brief tour of the school, and some individual time with staff and students, Mark spoke to the school about the Free the Children organization, Me to We initiatives, and global issues relating to child poverty across the world.

Free the Children is a not for profit organization which strives to provide sustainable living opportunities to remote villages throughout Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The focus of this is on providing educational opportunities by building schools, and teaching sustainable farming practices.

Me to We Social Enterprise provides socially responsible lifestyle products and choices for young people, families and corporations. It includes international volunteer travel programs, a publishing house, a music label, leadership training workshops, a speakers’ bureau and a socially responsible clothing line.

Mark’s presentation opened our eyes to the needs of people around the world, and truly motivated us all to do our part to be socially conscious. We all look forward to continuing our social justice projects, and doing our part to help our friends across the world.

Coffee House

Our first Coffee House of the year is fast approaching!!

It’s going to be a fun evening of entertainment, with acts ranging from skits, monologues, singing, dancing, instrumental, comedy, and more.

Anyone interested in auditioning can sign up by the music room, or see Pam B. or Josh R.

Coffee House is November 19 at 7:30, in the cafetorium. Tickets sold at the door, $4 or $3 if you bring a mug. Many great refreshments will be provided, so come out for an evening of fun with friends and family!

Athletic Council

Anyone interested in volunteering at sporting events is asked to speak to Anna L. or Mike L. Duties include timing and scorekeeping at a variety of tournaments and games. Volunteer hours can be earned on after-school/weekend events.

Coming Soon

Spirit Wear is coming soon to St. Anne’s! Long sleeves, sweats, and hoodies will be available for purchase soon.

We will soon have another body wandering our halls…our school Mascot! The Majestic Eagle will be arriving soon, and will be making appearances at assemblies, games, and other events very soon.
