Junior Boys Volleyball

Way down in West Lorne, Thursday November 13, 2008, the St. Anne's Eagles Junior Boys Volleyball team captured the school's first WOSSAA Volleyball Championship. They defeated Woodstock Collegiate 3-0 in the semi finals, and then defeated the host school, the West Elgin Wildcats, 3-1 in the finals.

The boys will be wearing their gold medals proudly on Friday.

Girls' Field Hockey
St. Anne's Eagle's braved miserable weather on Monday Oct. 27th, with their games
against South Huron and Stratford Northwestern. Each game was played in driving rain and hail. The Eagles played valiantly against South Huron in the rain but had extreme difficulty moving the ball out of our water logged end of the field. Excellent midfielding by Brittany B, Kelsy L, Laura M and Kristyn M. Lisa V, Jodie K and Kyli L played solid defence. Forward Jory U did an amazing job at coming back and helping at midfield.

The Eagles dominated play during their second game with Stratford Northwestern. Amid more driving rain and this time hail, the Eagles figured out how to move the ball through the water and mud filled field. Jory U scored the goal and Courtney J recorded another shutout in the Eagles 1-0 win. All girls played at some point during these games and put forth outstanding efforts in these adverse conditions. The Eagles finished third overall in Huron-Perth which is one of the toughest divisions in the province. They represented our school with pride and grace. Well done girls!

OFSAA Cross Country
We had a great day in Sarnia at OFSAA yesterday. Shannen M. placed 13th in the Midget Girls' race. That's the highest placing in cross country we've ever had at OFSAA. Our Junior Boys got out hard in the first half of the race, pushed on, and scored 51st, 52, 53 and 104. Their score of 260 gave them 5th out of a field of 36 teams. Each race of 260 runners represented many of the best in the province, so these athletes' performances are nothing short of impressive. We are very proud of our X-C Eagles!  Annette and Baird Robinson
WOSSAA Cross Country First Place Champions from  Huron Perth
The Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association is comprised of 50 high schools in the counties of Middlesex, Oxford, Elgin, Huron, and Perth, including the City of London. It is one of the largest associations in OFSAA and, historically, one of the most competitive. Today, the WOSSAA Cross Country Championships were held. There was a tie for first place overall ... between St. Anne's Clinton and St. Michael, Stratford! This is indeed something for our school community to be extremely proud of! Congratulations both to the athletes and to their coaches: Baird Robinson and Annette Robinson from St. Annes and Mark Dewan and Liz Yundt from St. Michael's.  Great work!
OFSAA Golf - October 16th, 2008

The Midget Boys placed third (Cody P. 10th, Tyson V. 13th, Matt D. 20th Sam P. 24th). Congratulations to all athletes for an excellent start to the season! Well done, Team! Next week on Sept. 18th, we look forward to competing at one of the largest invitational meets around, the Fanshawe Park Invitational. Go Eagles!

For the second straight week, the St. Anne’s Cross Country Team demonstrated its position as one of Western Ontario’s top high school programs. Eagles’ runners raced competitors from over 50 other high schools at Southwestern Ontario’s foremost pre-season competition the Fanshawe Invitational held at Fanshawe Park in London.

Team results were highlighted by top team and individual performances in races exceeding 200 and even 300 athletes. The competition’s first event, the Midget Girls’ race, put the rest of the field on notice as Shannen M.’s first place finish and Ali F.’s third place result paced a dominating performance of 46 points. The Eagles claimed the championship with a score over 40 points better than their closest rival, Mother Teresa of London (87). The other team placers included Sheree U.’s 17th placing and Brittany H. 25th place. Nadine O. (33rd) and Hannah J. (94th) performed well as the top displacers. The St. Anne’s Senior Girls were not to be outdone as two hours later they also laid claim to their divisional championship. The Eagles scored 76 points as Shauna R. (10th), Grace H. (14th), Anna L. (25th) and Carly W. (27th) “packed” well with less than a minute separating the four placers. Becky V. was the top displacer (92nd) finishing comfortably in the top half of the field of over 200 runners. In the day’s closest competition, the St. Anne’s Junior Boys (last year’s OFSAA Bronze Medalists) came second to London’s St. Thomas Aquinas (the Silver Medalists at the provincial championships). St. Thomas Aquinas remarkably placed four runners around the top 10 and all within 7 seconds of one another. Their team score of 39 was just four points better than the Eagles’ score of 43. Jordan K.’s impressive second place finish lead the Eagles. Also running well on the day were Stephen L. (11th), Pat H. (13th) and Matthew S. (17th). The top displacers were Simon F. (37th) and Craig T. (38th).  Despite missing two of the team’s top performers, the Eagles’ Junior Girls finished a credible fifth in their division. Julia H. (17th), Therese H. (32nd), Alanna U. (50th) and Anna K. (51st) combined as the scoring runners on the team. Sara K. was the top displacer at 63rd.The Midget Boys were also short-handed, and still finished a respectable seventh. The team was comprised of Tyson V. (23rd), Matt D. (39th), Liam M. (44th), Sam P. (68th), and Ian Van D. (88th) and Dylan B. (92nd).
Injuries and illness depleted the Senior Boys’ Team as it limped to a nineteenth pace result. Michael H. was the top finisher at 46th. Next the Eagles will host a Huron inter-squad competition at St. Anne’s on Thursday, September 25th.
